Acromegaly and Bone Disease

From Lewis S. Blevins, Jr., MD –  “This is a nice review highlighting bone disease in patients with acromegaly.  One would think that bone enlargement would be associated with increased strength. That is not always the case. Osteoporosis can be a real problem. There is indeed a hypercalciuria associated with acromegaly and some patients have kidney stones as a result.  They hypercalciuria, along with hypogonadism, and perhaps steroid over replacement in those hypopituitary acromegalic patients treated with steroids, contributes to bone loss.”  Click here to read the Abstract
