In this episode, we’re diving into the world of acromegaly—a rare condition that often comes with significant challenges, both in getting diagnosed and in day-to-day management. We’ll take a closer look at how patients and their doctors sometimes see things differently when it comes to treatment. Joining Dr. Lewis Blevins are leading endocrinologists Dr. Julia Chang from Stanford University and Dr. Dana Sheely from UC Davis, along with Dr. Arita Vandana Thatte, a Stanford University fellow, and Dr. Vadesh Kumar Babu, a fellow from the University of California, Davis. They will share their perspectives and training dealing with people living with acromegaly. We’re also excited to welcome Ashley, a patient who will tell us about her journey—what it was like getting diagnosed, what she’s faced since, and how it affects her life today. Together, we’ll talk about the gaps in medical training, the roadblocks in care, and how we can work toward better understanding and support for those living with this rare condition.
This captivating conversation analyzes how patients can perceive acromegaly symptoms and quality of life differently than their physicians. It offers an intimate look at how endocrine fellows train on pituitary disorders and their confidence in managing these conditions post-fellowship. Importantly, the discussion also identifies the gaps in acromegaly care, exploring whether these are potentially linked to gaps in physician training or other factors.
