Do No Harm

An amazing interview by Terry Gross, Host of NPR program Fresh Air on the recent publication of Dr Henry Marsh’s book “Do No Harm”.  On this podcast, Terry uses her unique style in a fascinating talk with Dr. Marsh.

From NPR – Neurosurgeon Henry Marsh has opened heads, cut into brains and performed the most delicate and risky surgeries on the part of the body that controls everything — including breathing, movement, memory and consciousness.

“What is, I think, peculiar about brain surgery is it’s so dangerous,” Marsh tells Fresh Air’s Terry Gross. “A very small area of damage to the brain can cause catastrophic disability for the patient.”

  1. What an interesting perspective, as a patient I often wonder what my neurosurgeon and other physicians go though. I had two Cushing pituitary surgeries days 3 days apart and I felt bad for my surgeon. I knew he felt bad for me… I never blamed him, he tried to save the gland… Do no harm! He is world renowned and this was a rare thing to happen, at the time I was the twelfth patient of over 4,000.

Once again thanks for all you do!
